ABOUT ALFONSO MORENO

I trade to make room for life.

I’m Alfonso Moreno, a full-time trader, technical analyst and founder of Set and Forget Trading Academy. Since October 2013, I’ve been teaching traders how to analyse financial markets using supply and demand, price action and a clear set of rules.

But trading isn’t my greatest passion. It’s something I do so I have time for the things I love. There’s a difference.

From salsa floors to financial markets

Before trading, I worked as a salsa teacher, croupier, web designer and photographer. An unusual CV, admittedly. I spent eleven years teaching people how to dance. These days, I teach people how to stop entering trades every time a candlestick wiggles.

Teaching has been a recurring part of my life. I enjoy taking something that looks complicated, breaking it down and helping someone understand it for themselves.

My trading education involved thousands of hours studying charts, testing ideas and making mistakes. I tried scalping, small timeframes and enough colourful indicators to make the actual price almost an inconvenience.

Over more than fifteen years working with supply and demand, I’ve developed my own rules, trading plans and tools. I didn’t invent supply and demand. I built my approach around it.

Why I prefer the bigger picture

Higher timeframes suit my personality and the life I want. I analyse the markets, plan my trades, set alerts and step away. Some trades win. Others lose. Neither requires me to stare at the screen and supervise every candle.

The right timeframe depends on your circumstances, temperament and how much time you can realistically commit.

What matters to me is having a repeatable process: knowing what I’m looking for, where I’m wrong and how much I’m prepared to risk.

That’s what I teach at Set and Forget. My aim is to help you make your own trading decisions and understand the reasoning behind them.

Away from the charts

I’m happiest outdoors. Hiking, diving, climbing, kayaking, exploring caves or finding a quiet place in nature. I love animals, travelling and discovering places where I can spend more time outside than indoors.

Photography still comes with me, and after eleven years teaching salsa, I’m unlikely to turn down a good dance.

Those are the things I want trading to leave room for. Time with people I care about. A mountain trail. A swim in the sea. A life that doesn’t revolve around the next market opening.

If I’m going to spend hours watching something move, I’d usually rather it was wildlife.
